Report 1
Map of Methodologies and Procedures for Analysing Online Learning and ICT in Education and Training

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The first part of this report is focused in presenting different modes and eventually classify and analyse online training. As every expert in ODL and eLearning admits ”there is not an unique recipe or a “one best way”. In reality there are different models and different approaches to online training putting their focus on different aspects of innovation.
The approach and models offered in the report are the following.

1. The three paradigms: in this approach three Odl paradigms are presented. The relevance of these paradigms is related to the focus in defining: who is at centre of the model (teachers, learners or peer group) which is the dominant paradigm (teaching or learning), what is the role of technology, what is the role of the support and the learning materials.
2. Disc themes: this approach allows the analysis of online system by two main axes: locus of learning and task specification.
3. L-Change: is oriented to read and forecast innovation within different domain of changes and in drawing future scenarios of development of Educational and Training Systems.
4. Think scenarios: the scenarios presented provide an institutional view of imagined states of educational world in a few years time that emerge in response to different combination of policy decisions and they can be used by any reader to develop and evaluate their own visions of the future.
5. E-watch: offers an approach to analyse innovation in the school systems accordingly to different levels and by different dimensions. In particular two matrixes are presented and they can be used in order to detect the aims of every innovation (policy or practice) achievements.
6. Benvic system: The Benvic approach offers a methodology and quality standards that allow evaluating different models of learning virtual environments created to offer distance learning. It is the most promising approach since combine different tools and methodologies and promote a self-assessment process and a comparison procedures for improving quality.

In the presence of developing this report within the Sole project rather than select one single way we propose to present approaches and models used and experimented in Europe within different projects and researches. Each of them have some important aspects to be considered and relevant to be analysed by the Sole partnership.

In other words probably one “eclectic approach” is recommended to be adopted for the development of the Sole project. A discussion should now take place to judge the relevance and specific interest for SOLE of the presented models

The second part of this report is aimed at presenting the points of view and the experiences in online system from the project partners collected on the basis of a common questionnaire.
