Jane:
I am going shopping. Why don't you come with me? Susan:
That's great! Jane:
Well, I have to go to the baker's, to the grocer's, to the
butcher's. You know, I'm having some friends over tonight. Susan:
Good. There is a baker just round the corner. Baker:
Good morning, ladies! Can I help you? Jane:
Of course. Can I have a loaf of bread and four doughnuts? Baker:
Here you are. It is one pound twenty. Jane:
Let's go to the grocer's now. Grocer:
Look at these red peppers, aren't they fabulous? Jane:
Sure. One pound of red peppers and two pounds of the green ones,
please.
Well,
I also need four cucumbers, three carrots, a cabbage,
some lettuce, four tomatoes, two aubergines, an artichoke
and... That's it. Grocer:
Here you are. That's three pounds fifty. Susan:
Jane! Who in the world are you going to invite? Jane:
Plenty of people of course! Hurry up, Susan. The butcher is
closing in five minutes! Susan:
Whatever you like. Butcher:
Would you like some lamb, madam? It is delicious with mint
sauce. Jane:
Of course. Half a pound of lamb and a pound of pork, please. Susan:
Are you crazy? Nobody likes lamb. Jane:
Well, I do. How much is it, sir? Butcher:
Four pounds fifty, madam. Jane:
Here you are. Hurry up Susan! Let's cook dinner now.
